About Cherie Wilson

Hello, I am Cherie Wilson. I imagine myself an excavator of sorts and I have been an expressive abstract artist for the past 8 years with paintings in homes across the United States and Spain. I’m a self published children’s book author and illustrator currently working on a novel while living life in the beautiful rolling hills of Southern Indiana.

As far back as I can remember, I have wanted to be an artist. I began a degree in fine arts at Indiana University but didn’t finish and it wasn’t until loosing a beloved friend that i realized painting was a powerful way to process life. Then in 2020, after walking my daughter through oral cancer and loosing her, I am once again reminded of the informative and healing quality of creativity, and how I can express my voice and story in my work.

My painting process starts with exploration of line, color, value and form. Each new mark is simply a response to the one that preceded it.  My writing practice is much the same.

The act of both painting and writing often reveal just the slightest image or thought below the surface of my mind. There a brushstroke or a written word inspires the next action. Layer by layer of building up and deconstructing, art and story are created.

Writing and painting for me, together and sometimes separately unearth my deeper interior self.

This is where I can enjoy deep engagement with my work and express myself authentically and fully.

My greatest creative calling is to lean into articulating myself in my work, and to share this mysterious and rich language through my abstract paintings and written projects with the world.
